Sunflowers, small paintings and the number4

Many of my mornings start with a few minutes connection with friends around the world. This morning I received this. A photo from September 1990! What makes this memory special to me is that I was the first time on my way to Spain a country I’ve grown to love so much.

I also love sunflowers. And I often paint them. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen in my stories that I have been painting them recently. Small paintings that I often start my studio day with. They are a place to loosen up, try new materials, think with paint.

Often these paintings are talismans. These all have four flower heads, something which my florist trained sister would have disapproved of very much. But there are 4 for stability…something I wanted to improve in my life at the time.

Small paintings like these accumulate in the studio, they never go to galleries.  I work into them frequently. Today felt the right day to complete and varnished these 4. They are all the same size and all mixed media on gesso cradled panels, signed and dated on the back.

I am offering these for sale. Each one is £220 which includes p&p. Click on the one you like for more details or to purchase.

Update I’ve set up a shop on my website to purchase small paintings here is the link https://sallystafford.com/store

PS What also makes the top photo special is that my dear friend Tristan Forward who took this remembered that the it was  in front of Chateau l’Eveque just outside of Perigeux, France. But it was me that remembered that there was a camel in the next field! Magical times and journeys!
